Is there a way to get the lifetime license without using Google Play? I want to install the app using the APK and pay for the license. Possibly, multiple licenses.

Me too, Google has just lost a class action lawsuit that they had regarding anti-trust practices one of which is not allowing developers to implement other payment systems within their play store apps.
This will be possible in version 1.0.0 through an account system. See Announcements - AudioRelay.
